Step-by-Step
Installation Guide
Everything you need to know to install your Glass Fence Direct kit. No special tools, no masonry experience required.
Read this entire guide before starting installation. Each kit includes a printed version with diagrams specific to your kit size.
What You'll Need
- Tempered glass panels
- Stainless steel spigots
- Mounting hardware & anchors
- Silicone sealant
- Printed installation guide
- Hammer drill with masonry bit (for concrete)
- Standard drill for wood decking
- Spirit level (4 ft recommended)
- Measuring tape
- Socket wrench set
- Pencil & chalk line
- Safety glasses & gloves
Step 1: Plan Your Layout
Before drilling any holes, plan the exact placement of each spigot and panel.
- Measure and mark the total fence line with a chalk line.
- Mark spigot positions every 40 inches (the width of one panel plus gap).
- Ensure all marks are level using your spirit level.
- Check that the surface is flat — uneven surfaces may require shimming.
- Verify clearance from the edge of your pool, deck, or mounting surface (minimum 2 inches from any edge).
Step 2: Install the Spigots
For Concrete / Pavers
- Using a hammer drill and the included masonry bit, drill holes at each marked position to the depth indicated on the spigot base plate.
- Clear dust from holes with compressed air or a vacuum.
- Insert the included concrete anchors.
- Place the spigot base plate over the anchors and hand-tighten bolts.
- Use a spirit level to ensure the spigot is perfectly plumb (vertical).
- Torque bolts to the specification shown in your kit guide (typically 25–30 Nm).
For Wood Decking
- Pre-drill pilot holes through the decking boards.
- If possible, position spigots over or near joists for maximum strength.
- Use the included through-bolt hardware for wood installations.
- Tighten evenly and check for plumb.
Step 3: Set the Glass Panels
- With a helper, carefully lift a glass panel and slide it into the spigot channels.
- Use the included rubber gaskets between the glass and spigot to prevent metal-to-glass contact.
- Center the panel in the spigots, ensuring even gaps on both sides.
- Tighten the spigot grub screws to secure the panel — do not overtighten.
- Check level across the top of the panel and adjust if needed before fully tightening.
- Repeat for all panels.
Step 4: Final Adjustments & Seal
- Walk the entire fence line and check that all panels are level and aligned.
- Apply the included silicone sealant around each spigot base plate to prevent water infiltration.
- If installing a gate, attach the self-closing hinges per the gate hardware instructions included in your kit.
- Allow sealant to cure for 24 hours before applying pressure or load.
Step 5: Inspection & Compliance
If your local jurisdiction requires a pool barrier inspection:
- Ensure all panels are securely fastened and cannot be removed by hand
- Gate must self-close and self-latch from any open position
- No gaps greater than 4 inches at any point along the fence line
- Fence height must meet your local code (typically 48 inches minimum)
Most homeowners complete installation in 1–2 days. Enjoy your new glass fence — and the thousands you saved doing it yourself.
